Getting started
Do I need a referral to book an appointment?
No referral is needed for most of our services. You can book directly through our website or by contacting the clinic.
How do I book an appointment?
You can book online through our website or call the clinic directly. Classes must be booked through the links provided on each class page and cannot be booked at the clinic.
Can I transfer my care to Western Family Practice mid-pregnancy?
Yes. We regularly support women who transfer their care at different stages of pregnancy. Book an appointment and our team will take it from there.
Can I access postnatal care if I didn't have my pregnancy care with you?
Yes. We welcome families who delivered elsewhere and are looking for ongoing postnatal support. Book an appointment and our team will get to know your situation from there.
Our services
What services do you offer?
We offer GP care for the whole family, fertility assessment, pregnancy and maternity care, postnatal support, allied health services including psychology, dietetics and speech pathology, and classes for birth preparation and breastfeeding. You can explore the full range of services here on our website.
Do you offer same-day appointments?
We do our best to accommodate same-day appointments for acutely unwell patients. Contact our team and we will find the earliest available time.
What are your opening hours?
We open Monday to Friday (8am to 5pm), Thursday evenings fortnightly (5pm to 8pm), and Saturday (9am to 1pm). Visit our Contact page for more information.
Billing
How does billing work?
Our services are privately billed, with Medicare rebates available for eligible appointments. If you have questions about billing, our team can talk you through the details based on the care you’re considering.
How much will my appointment cost?
Our mission has always been to make quality care accessible. As every appointment varies depending on the type and length of appointment, we’re not able to display our fees here. Please contact our team and we’ll provide clear information based on the care you’re considering.
Appointments
Will I see the same GP or clinician each visit?
We encourage continuity of care and do our best to ensure you see the same clinician where possible. For pregnancy and postnatal care, you will see the same midwife and GP obstetrician throughout.
Can my partner attend appointments with me?
Yes. Partners and support people are encouraged to attend appointments, particularly throughout pregnancy care.
What if I need support between appointments?
Contact the clinic and our team will find the earliest available time. For urgent medical concerns, please contact emergency services.
What if I need support outside of clinic hours?
We don’t provide home visits, but telephone and video consultations are available on request. If you contact us outside of office hours, we will respond on the next available day.
For urgent care outside of clinic hours, we recommend contacting Health Direct or an urgent care centre. For obstetric patients over 20 weeks, please contact your referral hospital directly. For pregnant patients under 20 weeks, please call the Emergency Centre at KEMH and ask to speak with the Emergency Centre for urgent advice.
