A vasectomy is a safe, effective and permanent contraception option for men who have decided their family is complete. We provide vasectomy procedures in-clinic, with a thorough consultation process and follow-up care to support you at every stage.

1. Consultation

Your vasectomy journey begins with a consultation with one of our experienced GPs. An in-person assessment is important to examine you for suitability. We'll walk you through how the procedure works, what to expect on the day, recovery and any questions you have, so you feel confident and informed before proceeding.

2. Procedure

Vasectomies are performed in-clinic under local anaesthetic. The procedure itself is straightforward and typically takes around 15 to 20 minutes. Pre-procedure relaxation medication and other pain relief options will be discussed at your initial consultation so you know what to expect on the day.

3. Recovery & Follow-Up

We recommend resting from sports and heavy lifting for two weeks after the procedure to minimise the risk of bruising and swelling. We provide clear guidance on what to expect during recovery and schedule a follow-up to confirm the procedure was successful. Our team is available to answer any questions that come up along the way.

Frequently asked questions

Is a vasectomy permanent?

A vasectomy should be considered a permanent form of contraception. While reversal procedures exist, be mindful that they are not always successful. We recommend considering a vasectomy only if you are confident your family is complete.

Is the procedure painful?

The area is numbed with local anaesthetic before the procedure begins. Most men experience some discomfort during the anaesthetic injection, but the procedure itself is generally well tolerated. Some soreness and swelling in the days following is normal. Further pain relief and pre-procedure relaxation medication options will be discussed at your initial consultation.

How soon after the procedure am I protected?

A vasectomy is not immediately effective. You will need a follow-up semen analysis to confirm the procedure was successful before relying on it as your contraception method. Our team will guide you through this process.

Can I drive myself home afterwards?

If you've had the procedure under local anaesthetic only, you can drive yourself home. If you've chosen to have pre-medication on the day, you will need someone to drive you to and from the clinic.
